Cloudera on-premises support dates: 7.1.7 is already out of support, and 7.3.1 ends in December

Blog4 min read

The short answer

Per Cloudera's support lifecycle policy, Cloudera Base on premises 7.1.7 reached end of support in August 2025 and 7.1.8 in August 2024. 7.3.1 ends in December 2026. 7.1.9 is supported until October 2028 and 7.3.2 until March 2032, which makes those the realistic landing points for clusters moving now.

Cloudera publishes end-of-support dates for every on-premises release in its support lifecycle policy [1]. The product line formerly called CDP Private Cloud Base now appears there as Cloudera on premises, with releases named Cloudera Base on premises [1]. The dates matter more than the renaming: two have already passed, and one is close.

What the dates mean

  • 7.1.7 and 7.1.8 are already out of support — since August 2025 and August 2024 respectively [1]. A cluster still on either is running without vendor support today.
  • 7.3.1 ends in December 2026 [1]. For clusters on it, that is under three months of runway, not a planning horizon.
  • 7.1.9 runs to October 2028 and 7.3.2 to March 2032 [1], which makes them the two realistic landing points for anyone moving now.

Planning an upgrade against these dates

An end-of-support date is the latest the work can finish, not when it should start. Regulated upgrades of this kind run as sequences with rollback points and change approval, and the operating system has its own support clock that can run out first — which is the trap in the data engineering screen we publish. The order that works is the one that screen tests: read the support matrix against the cluster as it is today, sequence the OS and platform moves so the cluster is never on an unsupported pairing, and only then commit to a target release.

The wider point

Lifecycle tables are public, precise and routinely ignored until a date is close. The useful habit is to check them for every platform you run at the start of each budget cycle, because by the time a date is weeks away the only choices left are expensive ones.
