ServiceNow Brazil CMDB changes: Dynamic IRE by default, and the role change that hides incidents from service owners

Blog5 min read

The short answer

In ServiceNow's Brazil release, Dynamic IRE is enabled by default on newly provisioned (zBooted) instances, while upgraded instances on Static IRE can opt in. Service Graph Workspace is deprecated and merged into CMDB Workspace, the itil role is removed from app_service_admin (so related incidents and changes need itil separately), and CMDB Baseline is being prepared for deprecation in favour of Unified Map.

The Brazil CMDB release notes are short, but four entries change how an existing CMDB behaves or who can see what [1]. None of them is an AI feature, which is why they are easy to miss in a release that is mostly about AI.

1. Dynamic IRE is the new default — on new instances

Dynamic IRE is enabled by default on zBooted instances; upgraded instances still on Static IRE can switch to it [1]. ServiceNow describes the benefits as an improved dynamic identification process and automatic updates of IRE identification rules during ingestion of data payloads [1].

2. itil leaves app_service_admin

The sn_cmdb_editor and app_service_user roles replace the itil role within app_service_admin [1]. Service Instance records and Unified Map remain visible, but viewing related items for a CI — linked incidents or changes — still requires itil [1]. Users who held only app_service_admin may find those related lists empty after upgrade. A new app_service_owner role grants create, read, update and delete on Service Instance records without itil [1].

3. Service Graph Workspace is folded in

Service Graph Workspace is deprecated as of Brazil, and CMDB Workspace takes on its features [1]. Bookmarks, training material and runbooks that point people at the old workspace need updating.

4. CMDB Baseline heads for deprecation

Starting with Brazil, CMDB Baseline is being prepared for future deprecation: it will be hidden and not activated on new instances, though still supported, with Unified Map as the replacement experience [1].

What we ask

We ask CMDB engineers how they would prove that switching an upgraded instance from Static to Dynamic IRE does not create duplicates. Engineers who have done it describe replaying a known payload set against both engines and comparing results; the rest describe flipping the setting.

Related questions

Is Dynamic IRE the default in ServiceNow Brazil?

On newly provisioned (zBooted) instances, yes. Upgraded instances that use Static IRE keep it until you switch them to Dynamic IRE.

Why can't app_service_admin users see related incidents after the Brazil upgrade?

Brazil replaces the itil role inside app_service_admin with sn_cmdb_editor and app_service_user. Viewing related items such as incidents or changes for a CI still requires the itil role.

Tell us the role. A practitioner scopes it, not a recruiter.
