The short answer
Across 551 keywords seeded from technology-specific hiring queries, no term combining a platform name with hiring intent reached 20 searches a month. The volume that exists is learning intent — what is kafka, kafka tutorial. Buyer demand concentrates instead in generic staff augmentation terms, which peak sharply each September.
A reasonable assumption when building a niche technology staffing firm is that buyers search for the technology. Hire a Kafka engineer. RabbitMQ contractor. Cloudera developer. We checked, because the assumption decides where a site's content should go, and it turns out to be wrong.
Method
- Two seed queries: it staff augmentation and hire kafka developer.
- Google Ads keyword data via SnowSEO, United States (location 2840), English, retrieved 20 September 2026.
- 551 related keywords returned on the technology seed, 15 on the commercial seed.
- Monthly volume is the reported 12-month average; the historic series runs August 2025 to July 2026.
- Every figure is reported as returned, including the ones that undercut our own positioning.
Finding 1: technology hiring queries do not exist
Of the 551 keywords returned from a hiring-intent technology seed, 53 cleared 20 searches a month, and none of those 53 combined a platform name with hiring intent. The volume is all educational:
| Keyword | Monthly searches | Intent |
|---|---|---|
| apache kafka | 740 | Informational |
| what is kafka | 570 | Informational |
| confluent kafka | 350 | Informational |
| developer hire | 290 | Commercial, but generic |
| kafka tutorial | 120 | Informational |
| kafka architecture | 80 | Informational |
The practical consequence is blunt: a page titled “Hire Kafka Engineers” is a doorway page. There is no meaningful commercial query behind it. It can still serve as a landing destination for ads, or for a buyer you have already reached — but it should not be expected to earn organic traffic, and a content strategy built on dozens of such pages is building for demand that is not there.
Finding 2: the demand is in generic augmentation terms
| Keyword | Monthly searches | Difficulty | CPC |
|---|---|---|---|
| it staff augmentation services | 720 | Low | $409.40 |
| it staff augmentation | 590 | Low | $55.20 |
| it staff augmentation companies | 480 | Low | $43.46 |
| top it staff augmentation companies | 260 | Low | $331.48 |
| it staff augmentation agency | 70 | Low | $112.61 |
| nearshore it staff augmentation | 30 | Low | $0.00 |
Two things stand out. Difficulty is Low across the board, which is unusual for terms carrying this much commercial weight. And the cost-per-click on the two highest-value terms — $409 and $331 — tells you what the click is worth to whoever is currently buying it.
Finding 3: the seasonality is severe
9×
September 2025 search volume for “it staff augmentation” against the October 2025 trough (2,900 vs 320)
The monthly series for the head term runs 2,900 in September 2025, then collapses to 320 in October and 140 in November. March 2026 shows a secondary peak at 590. The pattern repeats across the whole cluster, which points to budget cycles rather than noise.
If that holds, content aimed at this cluster wants to be indexed and ranking *before* September, not published during it. We are publishing this in September 2026 — late for this year's peak, early for next year's.
What we changed because of it
- 01Role pages stay, but they are positioned as proof of the vetting standard rather than as organic traffic plays. They publish the actual screen; that is their job.
- 02The commercial weight sits on the staff augmentation and delivery model pages, which target where the demand measurably is.
- 03Technology-specific content is written for engineers rather than buyers, because that is who the search volume represents — and a staffing firm needs supply as much as demand.
